Proven ways that brands have leveraged mom WOM is through gatherings at regional events, private panels, and engaging moms online to enable them to take it offline.

General consensus is, Yes, they're here to stay. Question is in what form? I certainly think social media is here to stay, and as part of that, see a growing need for ways the company can interact with their brand loyalists, in fresh, exciting ways. And I'm not sure those ideas are going to come out of the social media division within the company. It might take a more unbiased perspective.

A better way to approach social media is to remember that behind every successful blog is a person. Reaching out to bloggers and building a relationship with them can go a long way in improving your social media efforts, your search ranking, and your overall marketing plan.

Mommy Bloggers are a continued growing force online. They're vocal and actively participating in conversations. The reason they are successful is because typically moms are providing relevant content and moms are hungry for content to get educated or make their lives easier.

Walmart has 11 mommy bloggers that they promote, support, and these bloggers are open about their participation and what they receive in terms of products, payment, etc.

BabyCenter (subsidiary of J&J) is also a publisher that has reorganized to include mommy bloggers into their editorial.

&G began sending the product to bloggers earlier this month, some of whom also have Twittered their interest in Weekly Clean. And Crest is using P&G's Vocalpoint buzz-marketing program for moms to spread the word too. It sent a survey about the product's marketing to the more than 600,000 moms in the program last week.

But the product's TV advertising will be relatively light, said spokeswoman Allison Yang, consisting mainly of five-second tags on ads for other Crest products.

This is an interesting perspective from Gareth Kay - Head of planning at Modernista. He references a campaign done for the Tate Modern to attract younger demos. But the key take away here is to think about social media from the perspective of social ideas and how people are social. Something that we continually do in all of our campaign development.
